What is Loving Day's mission?
Loving Day fights racial prejudice through education and builds multicultural community. Learn more in our about section.
Is Loving Day only about race?
Loving Day focuses on race when we're talking about history. The Loving decision and related laws discriminated through racial categorization. Today, we realize that traditional racial categories are socially constructed, not scientific. Moving forward, Loving Day focuses on building multicultural community. That includes bringing people together of different "races," cultures, nationalities, and religious beliefs.
Is Loving Day an official holiday?
Well, it hasn't been recognized by the federal government (yet), and Hallmark does not make Loving Day cards (yet). However, thousands of people celebrate Loving Day all over the world, which makes it very official to us!
Is Loving Day only active on or around June 12th?
Loving Day is active all year. It’s a global network of annual celebrations that you can host or attend, and it’s also an educational campaign that you can be a part of every day.
What does the Loving Day symbol mean?
There are two parts to the symbol in the Loving Day logo. The outer part is a shield, which represents protection and the law. The inner part is a heart, which represents love and the Loving decision.
How did Loving Day start?
Loving Day began as a graduate thesis project at Parsons the New School for Design in New York City. It was created by Ken Tanabe, a graphic designer, who accidentally discovered the Loving case while Googling something else. Learn more on our What Is Loving Day? page.
How can I host a Loving Day Celebration?
It's fun and easy to host a Loving Day Celebration, and we're here to help! Visit our host a celebration page for our free Celebration Kit and celebration ideas. You can list your celebration on this website and share it with the world.
Are there any Loving Day Celebrations near where I live?
Hopefully! Visit our find a celebration page for a full listing of events. If there aren't any events near you, you should host a celebration for friends and family.
Is Loving Day celebrated outside of the USA?
Yes it is! Even though Loving Day was started in the USA, the Loving Day message is universal. We've heard from people from all over the world, including China, Australia, South Africa, France, Spain, and Brazil.
Do I have to be in an interracial relationship or be multiracial to participate in Loving Day?
Absolutely not! Loving Day is especially popular among interracial, multicultural, international, and interfaith couples - as well as multiracial and multicultural people. However, we welcome everyone to participate. You didn't have to be of a particular race to march with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and you (or your significant other) don't have to be of a particular race to celebrate Loving Day.

Does Loving Day receive hate mail?
Sadly, we do receive hate mail. We'd give you some examples, but they're almost always filled with words that wouldn't be appropriate for an educational project. They do remind us that racism is still out there, and we all have some work to do.
Can I use information from the Loving Day in my school project?
Yes, you can! Be sure to cite Loving Day as you would cite any other source. Ask your teacher or professor if you should use MLA style, APA style, or some other format.
Can I use photos, videos, and other materials from the Loving Day website in my professional work or personal project?
If you will be promoting the Loving Day project or specifically mentioning Loving Day or LovingDay.org, the answer is probably "yes" - but you have to ask us first! Please contact us with what you want to use and we'll get right back to you.
Can I make my own Loving Day stuff?
Yes, you can - as long as you don't use the Loving Day logo (the one used on this website). Many community groups, student groups, and individuals have made cool shirts and other stuff that relates to Loving Day. They created unique designs without using the Loving Day logo.

Can you help me get a date or find a life partner?
