After The Event

How did it go?:

The Loving Day Flagship Celebration in New York City celebrated its thirteenth year in New York with hundreds of guests. Thanks to our Premier sponsors www.interracialdatingcentral.com and Asahi Beer, guests enjoyed the unique energy and diversity of Loving Day on the waterfront with DJs, dancing, food, and drinks in a positive community atmosphere. Younger guests enjoyed the art and family area.

Loving Day founder Ken Tanabe followed tradition by telling the story of the Lovings. He encouraged guests to sign the White House petition to make Loving Day official. This is also an important year because of "Loving," a new film about Richard and Mildred Loving. It's already getting Oscar buzz from the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France, and it's coming to theaters this November. In April, an Old Navy ad generated a racist backlash on Twitter. This resulted in national media attention and a response from Jack McCain, son of Arizona Senator John McCain. We were reminded of the Cheerios commercials of 2013-2014, and of the importance of celebrating Loving Day.

There were Loving Day Celebrations in six countries (France, Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, U.K., U.S.), for a total of 33 cities (the New York celebration is the flagship) There have been over 260 Loving Day Celebrations in the past thirteen years.

As always, the diverse crowd brought incredible positive energy and made the afternoon an absolute pleasure. A very sincere thank you to everyone who celebrated Loving Day with us. You helped us to continue our New York tradition for thirteen years and to inspire celebrations in cities all over the world.
