When and Where is the Celebration?
Celebration Details
Last year, Mixed held its first annual Loving Day Banquet to commemorate the landmark Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia (1967), in which a unanimous Court declared anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional. The Loving Day Banquet was the culminating event of Mixed Week, which we held the week of Valentine's Day to provoke thought about interracial relationships and, more broadly, racial and other social identities. With support from CPC, SJC, ASA, ABS, ALAS, WU-Slam, CS40, and Mosaic Whispers, we welcomed a sold-out crowd of 250 students to College Hall.
We hope to create a tradition surrounding the Loving Day Banquet to celebrate mixed identities relating not only to race, but also to culture, religion, nationality, language, gender, and sexuality.
