I am the product of a biracial relationship. I am half white and half black.

Although my parents' relationship didn't work out, I've taken the time to come to terms with my true identity. I've accepted both Caucasian and African-American heritage and culture as my own, finally. When people ask me what I am, I answer proudly that I'm mixed.

Some people assume I'm adopted, but I explain to them that I consider myself just like my mother, except several shades darker. I love the fact that the color of my skin opens up doors and conversations about such an important aspect of life, and I'm grateful to my parents for that.
