A group art exhibition opening Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the New Orleans Healing Center.

The 2nd Annual New Orleans Loving Festival is seeking original artwork and films with themes concerning the multiracial experience. Please follow the guidelines below for consideration:

Loving Day founder Ken Tanabe will be speaking at the National Coalition on School Diversity's conference on the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education (May 17, 2012) in Washington DC at the Georgetown University Law Center. The conference, "Advancing the Legacy of Mendez and Brown," will draw a diverse audience of educators, parents, scholars, advocates, community organizers, and policymakers (including key officials from the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice). Virginia is the Supreme Court case that legalized interracial marriage in the United States. This landmark civil rights case was decided on June 12th, 1967. We want to make this day of celebration a new tradition and hope that you will join us!

2012 marks the 45th anniversary of Loving v. Virginia, the Supreme Court case that legalized interracial marriage in the US. To honor this historic decision, StoryCorps will hold a special community recording day for multiracial, multiethnic and mixed heritage individuals, couples and families.

11am-4pm RECORD YOUR STORY
Six hour long interview slots are available to record YOUR story with a family member or loved one.

Join Mavin for our annual event that supports and celebrates Mildred & Richard Loving and their landmark Supreme Court victory in 1967 for the right to marry interracially. This victory resulted in the abolition of all remaining laws across all states that made interracial marriage illegal. (Over a dozen states still had laws prohibiting interracial marriage at this time!)
