Nicole & Shaun

Wed, 09/09/2009 - 2:05am -- nbernard

Shaun and I have been happily married for a little over 5 years. I'm proud of our relationship and don't understand the stigma that often comes with dating/marrying outside of your race. I love my life and my husband and the beautiful daughter that joined our family last year. She is a lasting testament to our love and super cute too. Don't mean to toot my own horn but....TOOT TOOT. :)

When two people come together it's normally because they have fallen in love, and in a perfect world "love conquers all." Now, when two people from different races and backgrounds come together it's also because they have fallen in love and once again "love conquers all," right? My husband and I come from different races and backgrounds and did fall in love 17 years ago, married 16 years ago, had a daughter 14 years ago and just so happen to be black (my husband) and white (me). Is this the end of the story...not by a long shot, actually it is just the beginning.

Omar and I met at college perk coffeehouse, a very indie/hippie coffeehouse (it is a real house) near campus. We were both frequent goers of that place, and on August 17, 2007, we happened to be there at the same time :) He was studying in the room my firend and I wanted. I kept looking into the room till he invited us to share it. A week later we met again, still at the coffeehouse. I added him on facebook, and he asked me out on a date.

My husband and I have been happily married for 12+ years. We were married in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the same state that the Lovings wanted to marry in.

We are an interracial couple with 3 multiracial sons.

My husband and I met through Yahoo! Personals in November 2001. I was living in Fresno, and he is from L.A. It started out as friendship only. I let him know from the beginning that I wasn't looking to rush into a relationship just yet, and I wanted him to know me and vice-versa. For the next three months, it seemed like a fairytale. He would call during work and leave voicemails telling me how much he couldn't wait to see me, just saying sweet nothings throughout the day. When we talked at night, his voice was so soothing and beautiful, I felt like I had known him forever.

MIchael "Mick" Melvin and I met in college and dated for a couple of years starting in 1986. After college we went our separate ways.

In 2006 we reconnected at an Alumni event and started dating again. I say it's all about timing and it really is!! What we weren't ready for then we were both available and ready for later! We married in 2008, 20 years after we graduated college!

I met this wonderful woman, whom I will refer to as "Lois", several years back when she was 16 and I was 20. I worked at a retail store and she would come in with her friend's mother and shop. Years later, I got married to another woman and would lose touch in seeing this person, until I saw her on Yahoo! profiles. When I started talking to her, it was pure friendship; we were alike, but I knew I was married. Because of that, I didn't want to disrespect her or my family, so the friendship ended. Again- years later, I filed for divorce and one day, sought out the Yahoo!

Brian and I met almost two years ago under the most improbable circumstances. Both of us had decided to spend a summer in Argentina and though we were just two people of 14 million living in Buenos Aires, God joined our paths beautifully and we have never diverted. From the time we met it was an instant connection. Neither of us knew it would go beyond a strong friendship...but after knowing each other for a couple of months, the romantic feelings were undeniable. A year and a half later, we got married.
