When and Where is the Celebration?
THIS EVENT IS GOING TO BE RESCHEDULED (it will NOT be on June 28th) - PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR THE NEW DATE AND TIME
It's hard to believe that just 43 years ago, in 1966, interracial marriage was still considered illegal in 17 states in the U.S. In June, we celebrate "Loving Day" and the case that changed history for interracial couples - Loving v. Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Loving (yes, an apropos last name!) fought to overturn the anti-miscegenation laws that existed. On June 12, 1967, the Supreme Court ruled in their favor. Join SwirlNYC in celebrating this important event in history.
SwirlNYC is going to have a picnic to celebrate Loving Day!
Sunday, 6/28, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
at Madison Square Park
(enter at 23rd and 5th Avenue and keep an eye out for people in Swirl shirts!...or if you really have trouble finding us, call Jen at 917.291.5227).
You can buy delicious burgers at the Shake Shack in the park or bring your lunch and your friends/family and join us for a picnic in the park (note: there's a great playground in the park for the little ones, so we hope families will join us too!). We will bring blankets, snacks and drinks, and a fun Loving Day trivia game for us to play. :) We will also talk about what Loving Day means to us...and catch up! We are looking forward to meeting new members and catching up with our veteran members.
And because our NYC weather has been a bit unreliable lately, our plan B in case it rains, is to meet for a late lunch at Planet Thailand 212 (a couple of blocks away from the park) - 30 West 24th St (between Broadway & Madison Ave). If you aren't sure whether or not we are going to Plan B, feel free to call Jen at 917.291.5227
Looking forward to seeing lots of you at this nice outdoor summer event!
