When and Where is the Celebration?
49 years ago, Mildred and Richard Loving (a black woman and a white man) were arrested in Virginia, and sentenced to a year in prison for the crime of being married. Mildred and Richard challenged Virginia's miscegenation law, and their landmark civil rights case, Loving v Virginia ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States on June 12, 1967. Because the Loving's challenged racism, LOVING DAY is the biggest multiracial celebration in the United States. We're honoring Richard and Mildreds legacy by showcasing love songs all night with special guests to drop in.
Hosted by the New Orleans Loving Festival in collaboration with Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro and New Orleans Musicians' Assistance Foundation. Come share the love!
